About The Truck Lettering Co.
We make the lettering a commercial truck is required to carry: company name, USDOT and MC numbers, CA and CSLB numbers, GVW, unit numbers. Designed by you online in a couple of minutes, cut from premium vinyl, shipped in 1 to 3 days.
Who we are
The Truck Lettering Co. is a DBA of IRO Innovations, a small California company that builds software and services for the trucking industry: CDL training, school management tools, DMV registration services, and now lettering. We started this because the drivers and small carriers we already work with kept asking the same question after getting their USDOT number: where do I get the door lettering, and what exactly has to be on it?
The answer used to be a local sign shop, a quote, a proof by email, and a week of back and forth. We built a designer that does the layout to the federal rule, shows it on a real truck door at scale, and sends it to be cut the same day.
How the lettering is made
- Cut vinyl, not printed. Each letter is cut from a solid sheet of premium cast vinyl, the same material sign shops use, rated for more than five years outdoors.
- Pre-spaced on transfer tape. Each door comes as one piece, already laid out, so it goes on straight in about 15 minutes. A felt squeegee is in the box.
- Cut by a US production partner that has made commercial vehicle lettering for decades. We design, check and route every order; they cut and ship it blind to your door.
- Checked against the rule. The designer sizes USDOT numbers to be legible from 50 feet as 49 CFR 390.21 requires, warns you when colors are too close to the door, and checks your USDOT number against the FMCSA register before you pay.
How we write the guides
Our rules pages and guides are plain-English summaries of the federal marking rule and state rules, written from the regulations themselves and linked to the source at the bottom of each page. We re-check them when the rules change and date every page. They are not legal advice. If your situation is unusual, ask the CHP, FMCSA or your state agency, and tell us if you find something we got wrong.
What happens after you order
You get a confirmation with your lettering exactly as it will be cut. We hold it for two hours so you can catch a typo, then it goes to the cutter. You get a tracking number when it ships, a note five days after delivery asking how the install went, and a real person reads every reply.
